Pilot trainings

The Calgary Flight Training Centre is committed to excellence in training tomorrow's aviators.
  • Commercial Pilot License — CPL
The commercial pilot license is required to work as a pilot. An applicant must already hold a private pilot license and pass a minimum category 1 medical. CFTC’s commercial pilot course will take 6-12 month to complete. Upon completion you will be a licensed commercial pilot and will be able to fly passengers by day or night in VFR conditions* on single engine aircraft.
  • Private Pilot License — PPL
The private pilot license is the ideal license for the person who wants to fly anywhere, anytime. An applicant must be 14 to start training and 16 to be licensed and pass a minimum category 3 medical. CFTC offers a comprehensive course that can take 3-6 months to complete. Upon completion of the license you will be able to fly passengers in any single engine non-high performance aircraft anywhere in the world, under day VFR conditions*. You may not however fly for hire.
  • Recreational Pilot Permit
A recreational pilot permit is for occasional flyers who do not mind having restrictions on their license. It is the most basic license available. An applicant must be 16 years of age to be licensed and pass a minimum category 4 medical. The course takes 2-4 month to complete. Upon obtaining your permit, you may only fly in Day VFR conditions* with one passenger. And are limited to Canadian airspace, while enjoying the privilege of flying your own aircraft.
  • Flight Instructor Rating
Becoming a flight instructor is a great way to passon the joy of flying while gaining Pilot-In-Command time. An applicant must hold a valid commercial pilot license. The rating is divided into 30 hours classroom and 30 hours in the aircraft. CFTC’s program will take 2-6 month to complete.
  • Night Rating
A night rating is required to fly by night. It can be endorsed on a private pilot license and is included in the commercial pilot license. An applicant must already hold a private pilot license, before starting the endorsement.
  • Multi-Engine Rating
A multi-engine rating is required to fly multi-engine aeroplanes. It can be endorsed on a private or commercial pilot license. An applicant must already hold a private pilot license. The course will take 2-4 weeks to complete. And an applicant may challenge the flight test at anytime.
  • Instrument Rating
An instrument rating is required to fly in IFR conditions. This means flying in cloud. This rating will either be a single engine instrument rating or multi-engine instrument rating. An applicant must already hold a private pilot license.
*Visual flight rules (VFR) are a set of regulations which allow a pilot to operate an aircraft in weather conditions generally clear enough to allow the pilot to see where the aircraft is going.
