Private Pilot License
Calgary Flight Training Center offers a comprehensive Private Pilot License Course. A Private Pilot License will enable you to fly a single engine aircraft anywhere in the world for leisure travel.
Description
The private pilot license is divided into two components, ground school and flight training. Ground school is offered on location two nights a week and is comprised of 18 lessons. It is designed to work in conjunction with the flight training and prepare you to write your written exam. The flight training is based upon a minimum 45 hours worth of training. Most of our students are finishing their licenses between 45-55 hours. We are open 7 days a week and you can fly anytime during daylight hours.
Prerequisites
- Must be 17 years of age to be licensed however training can begin at an earlier age
- Category 3 Medical
Course Requirements
(Based on minimum Transport Canada requirements)
- 45 Hours minimum training including
- 33 hours dual instruction including:
- 3 hours cross country
- 5 hours instrument
- 12 hours solo including:
- 5 hours cross country
- 10 hours individual ground instruction
- 33 hours dual instruction including:
- 40 hours ground school
- Passing grade on a Transport Canada written exam and flight test
Length of Course
- The private pilot course can take anywhere between 2-6 months to complete depending on whether the student is full-time or part-time
Privileges and Limitations
- The holder of a Private Pilot License may operate any Canadian registered single engine non-high performance aircraft anywhere in the world
- Flight may only be conducted during daylight hours and visual flight rules (VFR) conditions unless license is endorsed with a night rating and instrument rating
- A Private Pilot License will enable you to carry passengers for leisure but not for hire
